An in-depth look at news of the new BMW R 1250 GS and GS Adventure models for 2021.

Without doubt, the ultimate travel Enduro, the BMW R 1250 GS has always stood for the perfect combination of riding dynamics as well as touring and off-road capability. This update firmly strengthens that stance.

We take a look in detail to give you a quick breakdown of what’s new.

The Models

The R 1250 GS and GS Adventure both come in 4 flavours:
– (Base) Icegrey uni
– Edition “40 Years GS”
– Rallye and
– Triple Black

Carried over is the 1,254 cc boxer with the existing EU5 vehicle type approval it retains 100 kW (136 HP) of power and develops a maximum torque of 143 Nm. As before, due to BMW ShiftCam technology for varying valve control timing and valve lift on the intake side, it provides superior power across the entire speed range, extremely smooth and quiet running and outstanding consumption and emission values.

Suspension remains unchanged with the BMW Telelever at the front and the BMW Paralever single-sided swinging arm at the rear ensuring high riding stability and optimum handling characteristics.

Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) comes with a new “Eco” riding mode as standard. The Pro riding modes with riding mode preselection and dynamic engine brake control are optional equipment although standard on higher specification models in some countries. The Dynamic Engine Brake Control is a new component of the Pro riding modes. Electronic Dynamic ESA is listed as “Next Generation” with fully automatic load compensation.

BMW’s Integral ABS Pro is now standard across the range.

Hill Start Control (HSC) now standard on all models with a Pro version with advanced functionality as a factory option. This may be standard on some models in some markets.

The adaptive swivelling LED headlight illuminates the road ahead at an angle based on lean into corners providing more light in the direction of travel. This improves both visibility and safety.

Cruising Light (in some markets) allows the turn indicators to “glow” increasing the visibility of the bike for safety. With Headlight Pro, as you can see in our photo the headlight has an X-shaped light icon that functions as a striking daytime riding light when the function is activated. When the dipped beam is switched on, it illuminates with reduced brightness.

The new convenience lighting functions include a “Welcome” function, a “Good bye” function and the “Follow me home” function for convenience and orientation.
