A punchy update for riders interested in BMW Motorrad’s mid-range bikes
BMW Motorrad has significantly upgraded their F 900 R roadster and F 900 XR sport-tourer for riders who love carving corners and crushing miles. Project Manager Anton Huber puts it perfectly:
“With a significantly extended range of standard equipment, fully adjustable upside-down forks, lighter wheels and a weight saving of 3 kilograms, we have been able to make the BMW F 900 R and F 900 XR even more attractive.”
At the heart of both machines is the proven 895cc parallel-twin, pumping out 105 bhp with Euro 5+ certification. Riders will appreciate the meaty torque delivery from the 270/450-degree firing order, especially with the optional Akrapovič sports exhaust that shaves 1.2kg while delivering a deeper growl.
The big news for performance enthusiasts is the fully adjustable 43mm USD forks, allowing precise setup for your riding style. Both bikes shed 3kg thanks to new cast aluminum wheels (-1.8kg) and a lighter battery (-0.8kg). Safety tech gets a serious boost with standard fitment of:
- Dynamic Traction Control (DTC)
- Engine drag torque control
- ABS Pro for cornering ABS
- Dynamic Brake Control (DBC)
- “Dynamic” riding mode with sportier mapping
The F 900 R gets a more aggressive riding position with revised bar and peg placement, putting more weight over the front for sharper handling. Meanwhile, the touring-focused XR receives improved wind protection, standard hand guards, and practical additions like heated grips, USB-C charging, and advanced LED lighting with cornering function.
Color options:
F 900 R:
- Snapper Rocks Blue metallic
- Blackstorm metallic (Triple Black)
- Lightwhite with Racing Blue metallic (Sport)
F 900 XR:
- Racing Red
- Blackstorm metallic (Triple Black)
- Lightwhite with Racing Blue metallic (Sport)
Notable accessories include:
- Akrapovič sports silencer
- CNC-milled footrests and levers
- Axle protectors
- Lockable soft cases
- Taller seats (+25mm) for both models
- Higher windshield for XR (+30mm)
With these updates, BMW has taken two already capable machines and made them even more appealing for both experienced riders and newcomers alike. The R delivers more aggressive street performance while the XR stands ready for everything from commuting to continental tours – now with even better handling, tech, and versatility right out of the box.
Awesome!
