The New Naked – BMW R 1300 R

The new BMW R 1300 R represents a bold leap forward in dynamic roadster design, blending cutting-edge performance with refined usability. Built around BMW Motorrad’s iconic boxer engine, this next-generation model is engineered to deliver a significantly sportier riding experience while retaining the comfort and touring versatility the brand is known for.

At the heart of the innovation lies a completely re-engineered 1300cc boxer engine, delivering a class-leading 145 hp and 149 Nm of torque. This makes it the most powerful boxer engine ever produced by BMW, with enhanced smoothness and efficiency thanks to revised bore and stroke dimensions. Complementing the performance is a suite of riding modes, including “Rain,” “Road,” and “Eco” as standard, and advanced “Dynamic” and “Dynamic Pro” modes with the optional Riding Modes Pro package for maximum adaptability.

What is the difference between the new 1300 R vs GS we hear you ask?
Great question and… nothing is the answer. The different joy comes from the chassis and suspension alone so the feel and purpose of the bikes are distinctly tailored.

The chassis and suspension have undergone a complete transformation. A newly developed steel sheet main frame and aluminium rear subframe offer improved rigidity and reduced mass, contributing to better handling and responsiveness. Paired with an upside-down telescopic fork and revised EVO Paralever rear suspension, the R 1300 R delivers razor-sharp agility and cornering stability. An industry-first innovation, BMW’s optional Dynamic Suspension Adjustment (DSA) dynamically tunes damping and spring rate on the fly, enhancing both comfort and sportiness — and marks the debut of a production motorcycle fork with adjustable spring rate.

Rider ergonomics have also been refined, with sportier handlebars and footrest placement improving front-end feedback and control while maintaining long-distance comfort. A variety of seat heights and optional comfort handlebars make the bike accessible to a broader range of riders, including shorter and returning riders.

BMW’s focus on user experience extends to the new Automated Shift Assistant (ASA), which enables clutch-free gear changes — either fully automatic or manually initiated — for a smoother, more immersive ride. Add to that the electrified luggage cases with interior lighting and USB-C charging, a new strapless tank bag, and optional Riding Assistant with Active Cruise Control (ACC) and Front Collision Warning (FCW), and the R 1300 R becomes a model of rider-focused design.

Visually, the R 1300 R is more aggressive and athletic, with four distinct model variants: the standard trim in Snapper Rocks metallic, the Exclusive in Racing Blue, the Performance model in Lightwhite, and the luxurious Option 719 Kilauea in Blackstorm metallic. Across all trims, a full LED lighting suite including new tail-lights and optional Adaptive Headlight (standard in some markets) ensure optimal visibility and striking road presence.
